Learning Session - Medicaid Options for Criminal Legal System Involved Reentry Support

The Center for Medicaid Services has new opportunities for supporting both youth and adults in reentry following criminal legal system involvement, including a new funding opportunity for State Medicaid Agencies to support their reentry initiatives. These are fantastic opportunities to secure both support from your Medicaid partners and funding for programs that benefit individuals with brain injury that have criminal legal system involvement.

Building off what you heard at the State of the States (SOS)

While you may have heard of these opportunities during SOS, this learning session will give even more detail and help you put together a plan to leverage the opportunities within your state.

What you'll gain:

  • Targeted Expertise: The National Association of State Head Injury Administrators (NASHIA) team will provide in-depth information on the the opportunities, focusing on:

    • New funding from CMS to state medicaid agencies to support reentry activities.

    • Required activities for each state in supporting criminal legal system involved youth by the beginning of the year.

    • 1115 Reentry Demonstration Waiver focused on supporting reentry populations, for which several states have been approved and many others are likely to be approved.

  • Collaborative Brainstorming: We'll explore potential partner organizations that can strengthen your activities.

  • Framework for Success: Receive sample language and guidance on how to coordinate with your state partners to guide your work in this space.

  • Open Discussion: Share your ideas, receive feedback, and engage in collaborative problem-solving with other states.

This session is ideal for states at all stages of developing support for people with criminal legal system involvement and brain injury. We'll explore all of these possibilities together!
